Bargains found at my Fresh&Easy

Tonight I picked up a small Tri Tip roast at my local Fresh&Easy. It was on crazy sale and cost $4.00! I'm planning to season it with garlic and black pepper and rosemary and serve it with roasted red potatoes. The leftover tri tip can be sandwiches and salads for the next few days.

Another great and delicious bargain is the $3.99 The Harbor Pinot Grigio. It is crisp and slightly fruity and very very delicious!

Dinner Possible: Beef Sliders

Oh Denizens of the Temple of Fresh&Easy have I ever got a delicious snack/dinner/diet friendly dinner for you!

Tonight I stopped in at my local Fresh&Easy and found a new product on the shelf: Beef Sliders. Even better, they were marked down for clearance. For $.75 I got 6 sliders. Easy peasy, I thought, I'll give these a try!

I pan fried the sliders for 7 minutes. While they were cooking I took two slices of Fresh&Easy brand sliced sourdough bread and put Fresh&Easy brand feta on 1/2 the slice. I added some fresh minced garlic, put the slider on top of the feta/garlic and folded the bread over.

All I can say is OMFG so crazy delicious that if I wasn't on a diet, I'd cook the other four sliders up and eat them RIGHT NOW.

Verdict: Fresh&Easy Beef Sliders: Nirvana

Libation Lollygagging: Tropical Lemon Drop

- Lemonade pic from F&E. Kai Lychee Vodka pic by Jo McGarry

I picked up a bottle of F&E Organic Mango Lemonade from the bargain bin with a day left on its shelf life. Even that, it was still very tasty.

Verdict: Heavenly

Always thinking about what I can bring to a party over here, so I pondered what I can mix this lemonade with. Suddenly, a brilliant thought occurred to me to do something with my newest alcoholic obsession, Kai Lychee Vodka! (Unfortunately, not available at F&E but at BevMo, in the premium vodka case.)

Welcome to the first F&E inspired bar menu.

Tropical Lemon Drop

In a shaker with ice, mix 3 (or 4 to taste) parts of F&E Organic Mango Lemonade with one part Kai Lychee Vodka. Shake well.

Enjoy tropical party in your mouth!

Review: Mozerella Basil and Pesto Pasta Salad

I picked this up in the Clearance aisle today and figured I'd give it a try. It is VERY good! I added some of the Lime and Cilantro Herbed Chicken breast to it and it is a great little protein filled snack for my long night of writing.

Mozerella, Basil and Pesto Pasta Salad Verdict: Heavenly

Grown Up Lunch: Parma Ham Charcuterie Plate

@fresh_and_easy Twitter feed led me to the LA Times article on 40 ways to pack a "grown-up" lunch. Some of those points were a bit too complicated for me to even think to do. (i.e. A dandelion greens and goat cheese empanada? Please. Would I go through all that trouble?). But some were easy.

And so it inspires the new topic of Grown Up Lunch!

Like pack your own charcuterie plate.

And there was the last pack of Parma Ham staring at me from the bargain bin at 8 p.m. last night for about $1.50 discount, destined to be the star of today's lunch.

So, for this Grown Up Lunch, mix and match the following from F&E:
  • Parma Ham
  • Bocconcinis (little mozzerella balls)
  • Roasted tomatoes (marinated in olive oil)
  • Olive tapanade
  • Baby bagette
  • Fruit salad -- Pick out apples and and honeydews to go with the ham. The rest is dessert.
I ate about 4 slices/half the pack of the Parma Ham and half of the baby bagette, 3 bocconcinis and 3 slices of tomatoes, and about 1/3 the tub of tapanade.

I washed that down with a can of San Pellegrino Limonata. Not from F&E but from BevMo.

So, technically, you *can* repeat the performance with everything a day or two after this. Parma Ham instruction said it should be eaten within 3 days of opening. And who knows how long the bagette will hold. As for the marinaded stuff in the tubs, those guys can go the distance.

As for me, because my Parma Ham is pushing it already, I plan to make a little breakfast sandwich with the leftover ham, apples, and bagette. :)

F&E "Dumpster Dive"

That's what I call it when I head directly to the "Half prized everything because it expires tomorrow" corner of the refrigerated area.

You would be surprise the awesome deals you get out of the "throwaways". No wonder some people are freegans. Most items still look pretty darn good. Some do look a little questionable.

Anyways, I made a stop there last night and scored me last night's dessert and today's breakfast and lunch. I could have gotten dinner out of that too, but Brandon already got us dinner.
  • Tres Leches Cake : I don't remember what regular price was : Paid $2.15. (Oh, and by the way, Heavenly!)
  • Exotic fruit salad : Regular $4.29 : Paid $2.40. 56% discount.
  • Chicken Cacciatore for 2 : Regular $4.79 : Paid $2.15. 45% discount.
Not too bad, eh?
